Silence is Distracting

Today's mental exercise for my workout was FOCUS. I went to the Y a little later than normal and usually they would have the music on, but today the didn't. I know I could use earbuds or headphones but I cannot have anything on my head while I sweat because I sweat alot and frankly, I don't really like the feeling of wet headphones and a soggy ear. I digress. I thought I could power through the workout in the complete silence but I thought wrong. Within 15 minutes, the silence became uncomfortable even with 3 other people in there. I was uncomfortable with everyone's silence that it kept me distracted. Finally, I went to the front desk and asked if they could turn on the music because it felt like the complete death in there. The staff at the front desk were surprised to hear the music wasn't playing as they were unaware. As I walk back to the weight the room, the three people that were in there looked much livelier and talked with each other. For me, I was able to focus and get in the zone. And when I was able to properly focus, everything else just faded away. Music helps me to focus and I also believe that music is life, and that is why the heart beats. 😉 As a guy who has been fat all his life, fitness is a mental thing and I believe the body won't go where the mind doesn't push it.
